BORN IN THE FIELDS
MASTERED OVER CENTURIES

250 years of Tequila craft, culture, and authenticity.

TRANSPARENCY DISTILLED

Since 1758, the Cuervo family has guided tequila’s every evolution—remaining the oldest, 11‑generation, family‑owned tequila house on earth while setting the modern standard for authenticity.

ADDITIVES: THE 30 SECOND TRUTH

1 % —That’s the legal ceiling. The CRT allows up to one  percent abocantes (additives) in any tequila style to keep colour and texture consistent.

0 % in our blancos. Cuervo Tradicional Silver, Dobel Blanco, 1800 Blanco, Gran Centenario Plata, Reserva de la familia Organic Platino contains only three ingredients: agave, water and yeast—nothing else.

Caramel ≠ shortcut. Tiny doses of caramel colour (or oak extract, natural glycerin) standardise hue and mouthfeel—just as in Cognac, Scotch and Bourbon.

No official “additive‑free” badge exists. Private seals lack accredited lab testing, and barrel ageing naturally introduces trace compounds, making absolute “zero” unverifiable.

SETTING THE STANDARD FOR 11 GENERATIONS

For more than 250 years we’ve done one thing: make tequila the right way. José  Cuervo earned the world’s first license to distil agave spirits in 1795 and has remained family‑owned for 11 uninterrupted generations, making us the oldest tequila company on earth. Our four distilleries all operate under a single NOM, ensuring every bottle traces back to the same rigorous, CRT‑certified standards.

From pioneering glass bottling and masonry ovens in the 1800s to inventing modern styles like Añejo, Extra  Añejo and Cristalino, we have led every major evolution of the category while staying rooted in Solar  de  las  Ánimas, the land first planted in 1758. Today, that legacy drives our commitment to absolute production transparency and sustainable innovation—protecting Mexico’s national spirit for generations to come.

THE PROOF IS IN THE PROCESS

MEXICO'S FIRST FAMILY OF TEQUILA

Since 1758 the Cuervo family has tended agave in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, earning the world’s first license to distill in 1795 and building La Rojeña—the oldest spirits distillery in Latin America—by 1812. Eleven generations later, we remain the only global tequila house still family‑run. From pioneering glass‑bottled exports in 1852 to co‑founding the Tequila Denomination  of  Origin (1978) and crafting the first Añejo, Extra Añejo, and Cristalino styles, our legacy is the backbone that keeps Mexico’s national spirit authentic today.

BUILDING TEQUILA'S FUTURE, SUSTAINABLY

AGAVE STEWARDSHIP

As tequila’s first agave farmers we now hold the largest owned estates in Mexico, planning harvests 5–7 years ahead so market swings never punish growers. Every piña is used: fibres become field compost and—through **The Agave Project—**straws, bricks and even surfboards, closing the loop on waste and generating new local businesses.

WATER & ENERGY LEADERSHIP

All four distilleries run on closed‑loop stillage plants that process 2 million  liters of wastewater daily; captured biogas powers our ovens. Diffuser technology on select brands cuts water use by 50 %, energy by 46 % and agave by 20 %—delivering lighter flavour profiles with a lighter footprint.

COMMUNITY FIRST

Multi‑generation jimadores earn industry‑leading wages and long‑term contracts that outlast agave booms and busts. Through the Beckmann & José  Cuervo Foundation we fund roads, schools and hospitals in Jalisco—because protecting tequila means protecting the people and places that create it.

TECH-FORWARD CRAFT

We tweak every stage for flavor and efficiency, from masonry ovens to unlock rich caramel notes to roller mills + protected well water to preserve agave purity. We use copper pot and column stills to tailor congeners; mirroring bourbon’s clean profile with less energy. Our barrel innovations continue to lead the First Añejo, Extra Añejo, and Cristalino categories.

TEQUILA TRUTHS

MYTH TRUTH
Additive free = better The CRT permits ≤ 1 % abocantes in all tequila styles—just as Cognac uses caramel colour. Quality is about transparency and flavour integrity, not a badge.
Diffusers Ruin Tequila Diffusers lower water use by 50 % and energy by 46 %, producing a lighter, herbal profile—ideal for higher‑volume expressions without compromising purity.
Big Brands Don’t Farm Agave Cuervo owns Mexico’s largest agave estates, planning 5–7 years ahead and paying industry‑leading wages to protect farmers from price swings.
Additive‑Free Badges Are Certified No official lab test can isolate 3,000 possible additives once a spirit touches oak; private seals lack accredited chromatography.
